Thanks to the legalization of weed in 2018, Canada has seen tremendous growth in this sector, leading to some incredible innovations and conveniences for everyone that uses weed or cannabis-based products. One such example is the huge increase of online weed stores such as ARCannabis which offer a huge variety of products from flowers to pre-rolls and edibles. Weed delivery has made getting your weed much easier and you don’t even need to leave the house to go and pick it up. Instead, you can go online, make a purchase, and have it sent directly to your door.

At least, that’s the case for some people. Some provinces don’t actually allow weed deliveries to take place and there are also some regulations surrounding it, meaning it’s important to understand what the laws in your province are.

Can I get a weed delivery in my province?

It really depends on where you’re from. Below, we’ve listed the rules surrounding weed deliveries and pickups by each province.

British Columbia

In British Columbia, the only cannabis retailer that is currently licensed to mail cannabis is BC Cannabis Stores. In the future, these rules may change. The other legal option is to purchase cannabis online for click and collect. In this case, you order and pay for your weed online and then visit the store to pick it up.

Alberta

Private cannabis retailers in Alberta are not allowed to deliver weed. However, you can still order directly from certain companies that are run by the province such as BC Cannabis Stores. Shipping costs a flat rate and is provided by Canada Post and Purolator. However, there are some locations that will allow you to buy online and pick up in stores.

Saskatchewan

Home delivery is available with certain chains such as 5 Buds. Other companies such as Fire & Flower only allow for reservations and in-store pickup. Deliveries are only available on certain days and certain restrictions may apply depending on the location that you order from. Some stores offer free delivery over a certain amount, and others might have same-day rush services.

Manitoba

Delivery is available in Manitoba but it will depend on the store and location. Most weed stores in Manitoba do offer delivery and some even offer same-day rush services throughout the day. This makes it incredibly convenient for you to purchase cannabis online and have it sent directly to your door. On-demand delivery is also available at certain locations. Pickup is also available if you prefer to walk to the store and grab your order.

Ontario

Private weed stores in Ontario are not permitted to deliver to customers. However, the Ontario Cannabis Store does allow legal cannabis delivery throughout the province. There are a number of shipping options available and there are same-day delivery options for certain parts of the province. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this has been severely limited and you may need to book an order if you want a weed delivery. However, you can still pick up your orders as usual if you prefer this method.

Quebec

The Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) is the only online store in Quebec that offers legal weed and deliveries. Private stores are not permitted in this province. However, there is fast delivery to the entire province and you can expect your order to arrive within one to three business days.

Newfoundland and Labrador

CannabisNL offers licensed delivery services for all of its weed products. However, most of these delivery services are actually handled by the stores themselves. This means that it can take a fairly long time for your weed to arrive and availability will depend on the store itself. As long as the store is officially licensed, you’ll have no trouble receiving your weed delivery.

Prince Edward Island

The Prince Edward Island Cannabis Management Corporation oversees weed purchases in the province. They also allow all PEI residents aged 19 and over with a secure and convenient way to purchase cannabis products online. Deliveries take around two business days and there’s a flat shipping fee which makes it very convenient.

Nova Scotia

Residents of Nova Scotia can purchase cannabis products through the NSLC if they are looking for quick and legal deliveries. In most cases, deliveries only take around two to three business days which is very convenient.

New Brunswick

Licensed provincially-run retailers in New Brunswick offer next-day delivery if you make a purchase before 2:30 p.m. There are also express services available if you want to make a purchase and pick it up immediately.

How do I know if I’m buying weed legally?

The best way to know if you’re buying from a reputable online store such as ARCannabis is if they impose a 30g limit on products that you buy. If you’re allowed to add more than 30g of dry weed into your cart, then there’s a good chance that they are not following Canada’s laws and you may get into trouble or your shipment may be stopped before it reaches you.

If you want to ensure that you are purchasing weed from a legal supplier that follows the laws, you’ll want to consult our list of legal weed delivery services by state so that you can have peace of mind. While there are certainly some restrictions on online weed deliveries, you’ll find that there are legal options in every province if you want to buy weed online.
